IND vs SA: Tilak Varma becomes India's new run-chase master, breaks Virat Kohli's major record in Dharamshala.

Young Indian batter Tilak Varma achieved a major milestone in the third T20I match played in Dharamshala. The 23-year-old left-handed batter shattered a record held by the legendary Virat Kohli. Tilak Varma has become the batsman with the highest average against South Africa in T20 Internationals.

 

He surpassed Virat Kohli in terms of the highest average against any team. Batting at number 3, Tilak played an unbeaten innings of 25 runs off 35 balls in Dharamshala, which included three fours. With this innings, Tilak Varma achieved a significant milestone.

In fact, in the third T20 match against South Africa (IND vs SA), Tilak Varma batted sensibly and steadily. He supported vice-captain Shubman Gill and took the team a long way in the run chase. With his unbeaten innings of 25 runs, Tilak Varma's average against South Africa in T20Is reached 70.50, which is the highest for any Indian batter against any team in this format.

 

He also surpassed Virat Kohli, who has retired from the T20 format, in this regard. Kohli's average against Pakistan (with at least 300 runs) was 70.28. Meanwhile, Tilak Varma's average while chasing in T20Is is now 68. He has surpassed Kohli, whose average in this format was 67.1. It is worth noting that Tilak Varma has scored 543 runs in 16 T20 International innings while batting second, with his highest individual score being an unbeaten 72 and an average of 68.  Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has scored 2013 runs in 48 matches during his T20 International career, with an average of 67.10.

In the current T20I series, Tilak Varma has scored 113 runs in three matches, including 26 in the opening match, 62 in the second T20 match, and an unbeaten 25 in the third T20 match. At the age of 23, he has scored 468 runs in 14 innings batting at number 3 with an average of 58.5, while overall he has scored 1110 runs in 39 T20 matches with an average of 48.26. These performances establish him as India's new run-chasing master.
