The drug controller said – We had sent the 4 cough syrups mentioned in Madden Pharmaceuticals to the government laboratory for examination. The quality of all four products was up to the standards. We take the monitoring of medicines and cosmetics very seriously. We take care that the products manufactured by us are of high quality.

 

The death of 66 children in Gambia was linked by WHO to cough syrup made in India. An alert was also issued for 4 such cough syrups. The WHO had said that the condition of the kidneys had deteriorated due to the condition of the children. It is quite possible that the children died due to the use of these syrups.

The World Health Organization (WHO) issued an alert on 5 October regarding 4 cough syrups made by an Indian pharmaceutical company. WHO had said that these products do not meet the standards. They are not safe, especially for children. Their use can cause serious problems or even death.

 

The WHO said that 66 children in the Gambia had died due to chronic kidney failure. It is quite possible that the children died due to the use of these syrups. These products are currently only found in The Gambia.

 

WHO further said in the report that there is such a quantity of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol in cough syrup that the reasons can be fatal for humans. In fact, due to these compounds, 33 people including children have lost their lives in India too, but these compounds have not been banned.

 

WHO has issued a medical product alert. This is very serious not only for countries like Gambia but also for India. If the matter is related to children, then the meaning of the alert becomes more widespread. There are many questions. For example, WHO's detailed report, the Indian company where it was produced, are these syrups being sold in India as well, and are they dangerous?

 

The government gives clean chit to Medan Pharma

In the case of the death of 66 children in Gambia, the government has given a clean chit to the company. The central government said that Medan Pharma's syrup is of standard quality. No adulteration has been found in it. The government has given this information to the Rajya Sabha.
