The situation in Ladakh remains tense following the violence in Leh on September 24th. The people of the state are demanding inclusion of the Union Territory in the Sixth Schedule and granting it statehood. Meanwhile, Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal have also launched a scathing attack on the central government.
"The land and employment rights of the people of Ladakh are in danger."
Jairam Ramesh said that the suffering and anger of the people of Ladakh should shake the government's conscience. He alleged that the land and employment rights of the people of Ladakh are in danger. The Lieutenant Governor and the bureaucracy have complete control over the local administration. He said, "When Ladakh was made a Union Territory six years ago, people had great expectations. But today, there is disappointment and dissatisfaction. China has unilaterally changed the Line of Actual Control (LAC), and the Prime Minister gave China a clean chit on June 19, 2020, which has further destabilized the situation."
The government should fulfill its demands as soon as possible - Ramesh
He also said that Ladakh is extremely important from a cultural, economic, ecological, and strategic perspective, and the people here have always been proud Indians. The government should not limit itself to meetings, but should fulfill its demands fully and as soon as possible.
BJP government intoxicated with power - Arvind Kejriwal
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the BJP government, intoxicated with power, is suppressing the voice of the people and weakening the foundations of democracy. The people of Ladakh are not demanding any privileges, but only their constitutional right to vote and select their own government, but the BJP is not granting them this right despite repeated promises.
Kejriwal posted on X
In a post on X, Kejriwal said that India did not gain independence from the British so that the people would become slaves of the BJP instead of the British. Revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad sacrificed for democracy, but today the BJP is snatching away their rights by converting states into Union Territories. If Ladakh's voice is ignored today, tomorrow it will become the voice of the entire country.
Restrictions under Section 163 remain in place in Leh. Gatherings of five or more people, rallies, and marches are prohibited. Prior written permission is required for any event.
