India-China tension: Why did India not get the intelligence of Chinese preparations?

India's former military intelligence chief General (retd) Amarjit Bedi says that India should review the role of its intelligence agencies and fix them when the China crisis ends.

 

General Bedi said in a special interview to the BBC that Indian soldiers who fought with Chinese soldiers in the Galvan Valley should have got intelligence alert.

 

He said, "Our soldiers should have got the news about the movement of Chinese soldiers beforehand. I think that after this crisis is over, there should be a complete investigation about how our soldiers did not get a clue about it. It is also important to improve your system in the future. This investigation should not only be within the army but also other agencies including intelligence agencies. We did such an investigation even after the Kargil attack for which a special task force was created. "

 

General Bedi believes that the aggressive approach taken by China and how Indian soldiers were killed in violent conflict, shows that China has worked on all these things in a planned manner.

 

Amarjeet Bedi says, "I think China was working on it for a long time." It is possible that they should have started all these preparations from March-April.

 

After the attack in Galvan Valley, the Indian Foreign Ministry itself described it as 'planned' and 'pre-planned'.

 

So don't the intelligence agencies of India have the capability to alert the army about 'planned' and 'pre-planned' attacks?

 

In response to this question, General Bedi said, "I cannot say that this is a failure of intelligence and monitoring agencies. We too had prepared ourselves but we felt that China would act only according to the provisions of the treaties, while such Not done."

 

General Bedi was India's military intelligence chief until March. Did India know anything about China's plans by then?

 

In response to this, he said, "We knew about all kinds of actions happening inside China, such as infrastructure, military exercises, or some kind of unusual activity. By March, we knew something about the practice of Chinese troops There were indications whose information we had extended further. "

 

What is General Bedi's opinion about China's intelligence and capability of monitoring agencies?

 

General Bedi says, "China has undoubtedly increased resources. Over time, China has improved its military capability considerably. China has three to four times more satellites than India. So it is clear That the capacity of China is very much at the moment but I would not say that we are facing a lot of shortage compared to China. India has increased its ability over time.

 

In present times when there is a situation of deep tension between India and China, are the satellites of India able to give us a clear picture of the border?

 

General Bedi says about this, "Our geo-special resources have increased a lot in the last eight-nine years. But it is not that we have reached the level where we want. Satellite should be such that In every season, good and bad could make us aware of the ground situation. "
