India abstained from voting in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on a resolution condemning Iran. That too when these proposals were brought by countries like America, the UK, France, and Germany, considered India's strongest friends. Many diplomatic meanings are being extracted from this step in India. Due to this, there is speculation about the strengthening of Indo-Iran relations.
What happened in the IAEA?
A draft censure motion against Iran was brought by the US, UK, France, and Germany on Saturday. The US said Iran has not provided a "technically credible explanation" of uranium particles at three undisclosed sites. However, Iran rejected this report.
Iranian officials say that no secret and unregistered nuclear activities have been carried out. It also pointed out that more than 40 surveillance cameras will remain operational in Iran for transparency. 30 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while Russia and China voted against the resolution. India, Pakistan, and Libya abstained from voting.
What is going on between India and Iran?
In 2014, when the Modi government was formed at the center, India's relations with Israel became very strong. After this, the distance from Iran started increasing. Later both countries tried to improve it.

Why did India help Iran?
Foreign affairs expert Prof. Assad says that this is a way of helping Iran.
1. Will it get cheap oil?: There was a time when Iran was the third-largest oil supplier to India. India stopped taking oil after 2019. The US sanctions were cited as the reason behind this. Iran wants India to start importing oil again.
For this, along with providing cheaper oil, Iran has offered to trade in local currency instead of the dollar. In such a situation, it is possible that in the coming time between India and Iran, there will be a big deal regarding oil. If this happens then the oil prices in India can be very low.
There will be two big reasons for this. The first is that Iran will give oil to India cheaply and secondly, due to being nearby, the cost of transportation will also be less. At the same time, Iran can take food grains and food items on a large scale from India. By doing so, both the countries will benefit. Experts say that this move of India can affect America's relations. Because India is already buying oil from Russia despite all the sanctions. Now if Iran also starts importing oil, then it can have an impact on the relationship between the two.
2. Option to mediate with Israel: Iran is seeing further advantage in good relations with India. The whole world knows India's friendship with Israel. In such a situation, if the dispute between Israel and Iran increases in the coming time, then India can play the role of mediator in it.
