Food Crisis: ...then the world will be in the grip of the severe food crisis, millions of people can reach the brink of hunger

With the passing of the day, the danger of food crisis in the world is also increasing. Ukraine has blamed Russia for this situation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that millions of people could starve if the standoff is not ended soon. Zelensky has said his country has 22 million tonnes of wheat reserves, which can be exported to help avert the crisis, but ships are unable to sail due to the siege of ports by the Russian Navy.

Ukraine can salvage the crisis but...

Zelensky said Ukraine was unable to export wheat, corn, sunflower oil, and other food items due to the closure of the sea route. If Ukraine can export, then it can help in controlling the price of food items in the world. Ukraine and Western countries have accused Russia of using food as a weapon. Whereas Russia has said that the world is facing a food crisis due to sanctions imposed by Western countries.

Western countries held Russia responsibly

Western countries threaten a food crisis by imposing sanctions on Russia. Turkey has backed Russia's hopes of lifting the sanctions. It is said that Russia is the largest wheat exporter. The food crisis can be ended by removing the ban on its export. This will also help in controlling inflation. The US and other Western countries have imposed sanctions on Russia in protest against the attack on Ukraine.

Ukraine seeks assurance of security in the Black Sea

Italian Prime Minister Mario Dragacchi, who has been working to avert a world food crisis, has said that Ukraine wants a clear assurance that its cargo ships will not be attacked. After that, it is ready to export wheat. Ukraine is a major exporter of wheat. Dragchi said this after a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Movement halted in the Black Sea

Ukraine's ships can go to any country only through the Black Sea, while Russia has stopped traffic there for the last three months by deploying warships in the Black Sea. Russia has said to ensure traffic through the Black Sea and export its wheat only after the sanctions imposed by Western countries on it are lifted. It should be noted that Russia is the largest wheat exporter in the world. But Western countries including Italy are silent on the issue of lifting sanctions from Russia.
