Indian-origin Rishi Sunak becomes UK PM: Dominic Robb to be deputy prime minister, Jeremy Hunt to remain, finance minister

42-year-old Indian-origin Rishi Sunak has become the new Prime Minister of Britain. On Tuesday, Sunak arrived at Buckingham Palace and met King Charles. King handed him an appointment letter and asked him to form a new government. King and Sunak met in room number 1844 of the palace. As per tradition, Sunak reached Buckingham Palace in a personal car.

 

From Buckingham Palace, Rishi reached the official residence at 10 Downing Street in the prime minister's official car. He gave his first address to the country as Prime Minister here. Said- The country is in trouble at this time. Former PM Liz Truss has made some mistakes. Now we will fix them.

 

Late in the night, the picture of Sunak's cabinet started clearing. Dominic Robb, who was a minister in the Boris Johnson government, was made deputy prime minister and law minister. Jeremy Hunt, who was finance minister in the Liz Truss government, was retained in the same position. According to BBC – Sunak, instead of the Finance Minister, wants to give the message to the investors that there is no need to worry, and trust the policies of the government.

 

Ben Wallace will continue as defense minister. India will have more to do with James Cleverly. Johnson's supporter James has been made foreign minister.

 

Our economy is in troubled times

Sunak said- I have just come to meet King. He has asked me to form a new government. You know that our economy is in a difficult phase right now. There was already a problem because of Kovid. Putin has made things worse by attacking Ukraine. Former Prime Minister Liz Truss wanted to improve the situation, and she worked tirelessly, but mistakes were made. Now we will fix them.

King Charles and Sunak had a 31-minute conversation

According to the BBC, there was a 31-minute conversation between King Charles and Sunak. During this, Sunak's wife Akshata was also with him. Queen Elizabeth met former Prime Minister Liz Truss for just 6 minutes. From Buckingham Palace, Rishi will reach the official residence at 10 Downing Street in the prime minister's official car. Shortly after this, he will give his first address to the country as Prime Minister.

 

Liz Truss resigns after meeting with King

Earlier, former Prime Minister Liz Truss arrived at Buckingham Palace and met King Charles, and submitted her resignation to him. Truss held a meeting with cabinet ministers at 1:30 PM IST before reaching Buckingham Palace. He also addressed the country for the last time as Prime Minister from the PM House. During this, he said- Our government took immediate action to help the people during a political crisis.

Rishi Sunak's parents were residents of Punjab, who settled abroad.

 

Sunak was born in Hampshire, UK. Rishi has done MBA from Stanford University in America.

 

Sunak studied politics, philosophy, and economics at Oxford University.

 

Before joining politics, Rishi worked in the investment bank Goldman Sachs and a hedge fund. After this, he also founded an investment firm.

 

His mother is a pharmacist and is employed by the National Health Service (MHS). Sunak's father is a graduate of Oxford University and Stanford University.

 

Biden said - Sunak's victory is a milestone

US President Joe Biden described the election of Indian-origin Rishi Sunak as the Prime Minister of Britain. He said- Sunak becoming British PM is very surprising and a milestone. Biden said this during the Diwali celebrations held at the White House on October 24.

 

Reason for Sunak's popularity

A big reason for Sunak's victory is his banker image. The biggest reason for the failure of Truss as PM was the failure on the economic front. Inflation in Britain was a key issue of elections. There was also economic instability in Britain, after which Sunak, who had been financed minister in the Johnson government, brought the economic bailout plan, it was highly appreciated by the middle class and his popularity among the people increased.

 

How Sunak got closer to victory

Penny Mordaunt, who challenged Sunak, withdrew her name on Monday, 24 October at around 6.30 pm (Indian time). Earlier, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson had also withdrawn his name. Sunak got the support of around 200 MPs. Penny had this figure only 26. After Sunak's victory, Penny Mordaunt met with party MPs. Said- don't worry about me. I'm totally fine I promise full support to the new Prime Minister.

 

Cameron said - my prediction came true

Congratulating Sunak, former British Prime Minister David Cameron said- I had predicted 10 years ago that one day a person of Indian origin would become the Prime Minister of Britain. Today my words have been proven true.
