India-Russia: India-Russia will increase cooperation on various forums in combating terrorism

India and Russia discussed issues related to the agenda of the United Nations Security Council. Also agreed to deepen cooperation on combating terrorism at the United Nations and other multilateral fora. According to the statement of the Ministry of External Affairs, India and Russia met on Thursday at the level of consultations on UN and multilateral issues.

 

The Indian delegation at the meeting was led by Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs. In this, the Russian delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Vasilievich Vershinin. According to the statement, Vershinin congratulated India for India's presidency of the UN Security Council in December 2022.

 

 

It said that the two sides discussed issues related to the agenda of the United Nations Security Council and recent developments. Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation on combating terrorism at the United Nations and other multilateral fora.

 

S Jaishankar meets Syrian Foreign Minister, assures help

S Jaishankar met the visiting Syrian Foreign Minister Dr. Faisal Mekdad on Thursday. S Jaishankar assured Mekdad of continued humanitarian assistance from India, especially in the field of medicines and artificial limbs. India has been providing humanitarian, technical, and developmental assistance to Syria through bilateral and multilateral channels over the years.

 

At the same time, after meeting the Syrian counterpart, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted that there was a detailed discussion on bilateral relations and the regional situation with the Syrian Foreign Minister Dr. Faisal Mekdad this evening. Assured him of continued humanitarian assistance from India, especially concerning medicines and artificial organs.

 

According to the press release of the Ministry of External Affairs, consignments of food and medicines have been supplied to Syria from time to time, as well as continued to help during the Corona epidemic. India has offered a US$ 280 million line of credit to Syria for the construction of a power plant and a steel plant. Two artificial limb fitment camps (Jaipur Foot) have been organized in Syria in December 2020 and most recently in October-November 2022.

 

A Next-Gen Center for Information Technology was established in Damascus in October 2021. Around 1500 scholarships have been awarded to Syrian students to study in India in various streams, including 200 scholarships in the current academic year. Mekdad is on an official visit to India from November 17-21, 2022. This is his first visit to India as External Affairs Minister.
