The High Commission of India in the UK on Tuesday started the visa application process for British youth applying under the new Young Professionals Scheme (YPS). Similarly, the British High Commission in New Delhi has started the process for Indian graduates. Under the agreement between the two countries in November last year, Indian and British citizens can apply to live and work in each other's place for two years. Indian High Commissioner to the UK Vikram Doraiswamy announced the launch of the scheme.
The India-UK Young Professionals Scheme was launched for graduates aged 18 to 30 years who wish to live, study, travel, and work in both countries for up to two years. The program was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rishi Sunak late last year. This reciprocal system is seen as an opportunity for the youth of both countries to "benefit from cultural experiences and draw expertise from both economies".
UK Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick said, 'The Young Professionals Scheme is a unique opportunity for British and Indian graduates to experience the richness of a new culture and lifestyle while building on their professional experience and expertise. He said, 'This new scheme shows the importance of our relationship with India and it will greatly benefit both countries. I encourage all young professionals in India and the UK who want to share their skills and talents.
Jobs can be done in the specified area
According to the website of the High Commission of India, applicants can take up jobs in the designated area during their stay. Indian citizens eligible for the scheme can be a part of the free 48-hour camp from Tuesday. Of these, 2,400 randomly selected applicants will be invited to submit their visa applications to the British High Commission. A similar camp will be organized this year as well.
