The rapid pace of quick commerce has now been slowed down. Following continuous efforts and several rounds of meetings by Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, major delivery companies have abandoned their much-touted 10-minute delivery promise.
Leading platforms like Blinkit, Zepto, Zomato, and Swiggy will no longer promise their customers that goods will be delivered in just 10 minutes. This decision aims to ensure the safety, health, and better working conditions of delivery partners, also known as gig workers.
Gig Workers' Safety Prioritized
According to the news, the Labour Ministry held a crucial meeting with these companies, where the problems associated with delivery time limits were discussed in detail. The meeting clarified that the strict 10-minute deadline puts immense pressure on delivery personnel, leading them to drive at high speeds, violate traffic rules, and often endanger their lives.
Minister Mansukh Mandaviya explained to the companies that while customers appreciate fast service, it cannot come at the cost of the lives and health of their employees. The pressure on gig workers due to this deadline has been a subject of much debate in recent weeks.
