Mumbai Indians bought some eight players in the player auction for the upcoming season of IPL. It had spent Rs 82.25 crore in retaining or trading players. The five-time champion team spent Rs 16.70 crore in the auction. Rs 1.05 crore was left in his purse. He bid on two players who performed brilliantly in the World Cup. Mumbai bought South African right-arm fast bowler Gerald Coetzee and Sri Lankan left-arm fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka.
Mumbai spent Rs 5 crore for Coetzee. Whereas Madushanka was bought for Rs 4.6 crore. Madushanka took 21 wickets in nine matches in the World Cup. At the same time, Coetzee had taken 20 wickets in eight matches. Madushanka was third and Coetzee was fifth in terms of taking the most wickets in the tournament. The team spent Rs 4.80 crore to buy Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Thushara. His action is similar to that of the franchise's bowling coach Lasith Malinga.
Mumbai also bought Mohammad Nabi
Mumbai bought experienced Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi for his base price of Rs 1.50 crore. The franchise also bid on right-arm spinner Shreyas Gopal.
