Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's troubles are increasing on both domestic and foreign fronts. Justin Trudeau is facing opposition from his party because his Liberal Party MPs are now urging him not to contest the elections for the fourth time. The party MPs have issued a deadline of 28 October 2024 for him to take a decision. According to the report of news agency AP, some Liberal MPs said that he should resign from his post by 28 October.
MPs of his party turned against Trudeau.
Earlier, about 20 MPs had agreed to sign on the demand to remove Justin Trudeau from the post. Meanwhile, after meeting with several members of his political party, Justin Trudeau smiled and said that the Liberals are strong and united. However, the changed stance of his party MPs is telling a different story.
'Liberal Party's popularity is falling'
Liberal MP Ken MacDonald (of Justin Trudeau's party) from Newfoundland, Canada said that Justice Trudeau will have to listen to the people. According to MacDonald, he has also signed the letter to remove Trudeau, although it has not been made public yet. MacDonald, an MP from Justin Trudeau's party, said that many of his colleagues want to contest the upcoming elections, but are nervous due to poor polling numbers and the falling popularity of the Liberals.
This letter was reportedly read during the Liberals' meeting. In this three-hour meeting, MPs of his party argued with PM Trudeau to resign and not contest for a fourth term. Justin Trudeau had earlier said that he was planning to contest the elections again. However, he did not answer the MPs' questions about the letter after the meeting.
Liberal Party lost in the recent elections.
In the last 100 years, no Canadian Prime Minister has been able to win elections four times in a row. Trudeau's Liberal Party recently lost elections in two districts of Toronto and Montreal, due to which doubts have now arisen within the party about Trudeau's leadership. Justice Trudeau has not yet signed the letter given by the Liberal MPs. However, the Prime Minister said that he would consider the demands of the MPs.
