The fourth match of IPL 2025 was full of excitement. The target, which seemed impossible at one point, was achieved by Delhi Capitals with three balls to spare. Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants scored 209 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Delhi achieved the target by losing nine wickets in 19.3 overs. Two Delhi players played an important role in this victory. These include Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraaj Nigam. Ashutosh played an unbeaten innings of 66 runs with the help of five fours and five sixes in 31 balls. However, he could only score 26 runs in 21 balls initially. Vipraaj Nigam did the job of turning the match around in the true sense.

 

Delhi did not have a good start and the team lost five wickets for 65 runs. Then Ashutosh came on the field. He shared a 48-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs. As soon as Stubbs was out, it seemed that Delhi's hopes were dashed, because Ashutosh was not able to hit big then. Vipraaj came out to bat after Stubbs was out in the 13th over. The score was then 113 runs for six wickets. Tristan Stubbs was out after scoring 34 runs in 22 balls. Vipraaj scored two runs on the first two balls, but after that, he turned the tables. Vipraaj scored 39 runs in 15 balls with the help of five fours and two sixes on his IPL debut. During this, his strike rate was 260. He was caught by Siddharth off Digvesh Rathi. However, when he returned to the pavilion, the Delhi team had made a comeback. He also took a wicket in the match. Vipraaj had dismissed Aiden Markram.

 

At the age of 20, Vipraaj Nigam made rapid progress in senior cricket and in the auction, Delhi Capitals included him in their team for Rs 50 lakh. Viparaj Nigam, a leg-spinner inspired by Rashid Khan, is known for his lethal turn on spin-friendly surfaces. He made a lot of headlines in the UPT20 league with Lucknow Falcons. In this league, he took 20 wickets in 12 matches at a strike rate of 11.15 and an economy of 7.45. Due to his excellent performance, he got a chance to debut for the senior team of Uttar Pradesh in the 2024-25 season. He can also hit big in the lower order. He can hit big in the lower order and he showed this on his IPL debut.

 

His domestic career took off when he made his debut for Uttar Pradesh in all formats. In the 2024-25 season, he participated in three first-class matches, five List-A matches and seven T20 matches for UP. During this, he scored 103 runs and took nine wickets. Chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who played with him in the UP team, said about Viparaj after the match, 'Viparaj was a batsman till the days of the Under-19 team. Then gradually he started leg spin bowling. He has a deep understanding of his batting. I have seen him play good strokes. He has always been fearless and does not hesitate to hit big shots. He is working hard on his bowling and is turning the ball well.'

 

He said, 'He is a very talented player. He performed exceptionally well in the UP Premier League and later played in the Ranji Trophy, where he also bowled impressively. I was a little surprised by his hitting ability. I had not seen him bat so well before. I am confident that he will achieve great success in his career.'

 

Viparaj also performed brilliantly during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. He took eight wickets at an economy of just over seven. However, Vipraj, primarily a bowler, also demonstrated his hitting ability in the Syed Mushtaq tournament. Vipraj scored an unbeaten 27 off eight balls and partnered with Rinku Singh to give UP a win against Andhra and also help them reach the Syed Mushtaq Ali quarter-finals. Then UP chased a target of 157 runs. This player can be seen doing wonders in the tournament going forward as well.
