Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday handed over checks of compensation to farmers to compensate for the loss of crops damaged by unseasonal rains. Kejriwal today distributed compensation checks to farmers for crops damaged due to unseasonal rains in October last year. During this, farmers honored Kejriwal by tying a turban.
The Chief Minister said that it was in the year 2013. We had a new party. At that time there was unseasonal hail. The crops of many farmers were ruined. Sheila Dikshit was the Chief Minister at that time. A journalist went to him and said that the farmers are very sad. There is hail, will some compensation be given? On this, his answer was that is there agriculture in Delhi too? After ruling for 15 years, if a Chief Minister says that agriculture is also done in Delhi? One, the farmer's crop got ruined. Second, if his own Chief Minister says that agriculture is done in Delhi? So he was insulted. This shows how the farmer was missing from the entire governance system of Delhi. When the Chief Minister and Ministers do not even know that agriculture is also done in Delhi, then what will work for them? Our government was formed in February and in April some farmers came and said that there has been unseasonal rain and because of that our crop got ruined. I joined them and went around 8-10 villages and saw that the crop was badly damaged. Sitting on the same cot with the farmers, we assessed the loss and there we decided to give compensation of 20 thousand rupees per acre. This made the farmers very happy. Not only did we announce at that time, but within two to three months the money also reached the farmers' account.
Compensation at the rate of 20 thousand rupees per acre
He said that in October last year there was unseasonal rain. Because of that, the crops of the farmers were ruined, so again we have decided to give compensation at the rate of 20 thousand rupees per acre. We have adopted a very simple method to calculate the compensation. If the crop is less than 70 percent loss, then 70 percent compensation will be given to the farmer and if the crop loss is more than 70 percent, then 100 percent compensation will be given. There is no need to calculate much in this. Crops were damaged in October. It took two to three months to conduct this survey.
He said that now all the surveys have been completed. On behalf of the farmers, I would also like to congratulate all the officers and employees for completing the survey so soon. Farmers' checks will start arriving from today. Today I am giving checks to some farmers. I wanted that these checks should be distributed by coming to the fields. This meeting should have been held in the village and thousands of farmers would have been farmers, the fun would have been different, but it is the time of Corona and because of this it is not right to hold more meetings, so a small program has been done. Some are being given a check of three lakhs, some two and a half lakhs, some two lakhs, which is a respectable amount. In other states, let's see that someone got a check of Rs 10. It is better not to give a check. At least don't insult the farmer.
All possible help is given to farmers
The Chief Minister said that Punjab has to travel due to elections. In Punjab too, the cotton crop was ruined in October. The pink larva is a worm, which had hit the crop. The government there announced a compensation of 12 thousand rupees, while the cost of the farmers there was high. The farmers also said that nothing will happen in 12 thousand rupees. The farmers have not got even that 12 thousand rupees till today, while the cost was less here, despite that we announced to give 20 thousand rupees per acre and now everyone will start getting checks too.
He said that 'AAP's government is yours, we belong to your family, I am in a way your son or brother, whenever you need anything, don't think that you have no one. The man in your house is the Chief Minister of Delhi. Your son is the Chief Minister of Delhi from your house. If you ever need anything, you come, we are standing with you. My own belief is that in a country or a state in which farmers are not respected, that country cannot progress. We respect farmers a lot. Anytime, any kind of sorrow or pain, we stand by you.
There will also be a survey of the ruined crop of mustard
Kejriwal said that I have come to know that the mustard crop has also been ruined in January. I have issued an order to conduct a survey to pay his compensation.
Delhi Revenue Minister Kailash Gehlot said that governments across the country say a lot for farmers, but do not do it. If any Chief Minister in the country has understood the plight of farmers, has supported them in trouble, then it is Arvind Kejriwal and there is no one else. No government in the entire country has given compensation of Rs 20,000 per acre. With this compensation, the loss of farmers may not be fully compensated, but the farmers will get a big relief. Gehlot said that I thank Arvind Kejriwal for this virtuous work, the way he has supported the farmers, for this the farmers will always be indebted.
