KKR vs SRH: BCCI Takes Action Against Abhishek Sharma; Uttering 'Obscene' Word During Match Proves Costly—Heavy Fine Imposed

Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a 65-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, thereby opening their winning account for the season. Following this win against KKR, the Hyderabad team's star all-rounder, Abhishek Sharma, has found himself embroiled in controversy. He has faced disciplinary action from the BCCI. Abhishek was found guilty of violating the IPL 2026 Code of Conduct.

 

 

The BCCI has imposed a fine of 25 percent of his match fee for using obscene language during the match, and one demerit point has also been added to his record. However, he has admitted to his transgression.

 

 

Abhishek Sharma Fined: Fine Imposed on Abhishek Sharma

Notably, the match played against KKR marked Abhishek Sharma's return to form. He played a blistering innings of 48 runs off just 21 balls, which included 4 sixes and 4 fours. This crucial innings played a pivotal role in guiding his team to victory. However, his conduct after the match landed him in trouble.

 

 

According to a statement issued by the BCCI, Abhishek Sharma violated Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to the use of offensive or obscene language.

 

 

In its release, the IPL stated:

 

"Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Abhishek Sharma has been fined 25 percent of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday. He admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.3 and accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding." — IPL

 

 

KKR vs SRH: Hyderabad Crushes KKR

Powered by the brilliant bowling performances of Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ishan Malinga, and Jaydev Unadkat, SRH defeated KKR by 65 runs. Batting first in the match, the Sunrisers posted a total of 226 runs. In reply, the KKR team was bundled out for 161 runs in 16 overs.

 

 

For them, young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi played an innings of 52 runs off 29 balls. Apart from him, Rinku Singh scored 35 runs. Aside from these two, no other batter could make a significant contribution, and the team suffered its second consecutive defeat of the season. For Hyderabad, Jaydev Unadkat claimed three wickets, while Ishan Malinga and Nitish Kumar Reddy took two wickets each.
