The ongoing war in the Middle East shows no signs of abating. In this conflict pitting Iran against the U.S. and Israel, neither side appears willing to agree to a ceasefire. While the U.S. and Israel continue to target Iran, Iran, in turn, is persistently striking at Israel and other Gulf nations.
Amidst this situation, Iran’s former Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has offered counsel to the Iranian leadership: if Trump is unable to bring an end to the hostilities, Iran should take the initiative to stop the fighting itself—thereby responding to Trump in his own language. Mohammad Javad suggested that Iran should declare itself the victor and halt the fighting in order to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
What Did Iran’s Former Foreign Minister Say?
Specifically, according to an article published in the U.S.-based journal Foreign Affairs, Iran’s former Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif remarked regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East that this strategy could not only bring an end to the current hostilities but also help foster stability within the region.
Iran Should Declare Itself the Victor
Javad Zarif has appealed to the Iranian leadership, urging Iran to declare itself the victor, conclude the matter, and unilaterally announce a ceasefire on its own terms. Such a decision by Iran could prove to be a masterstroke against U.S. President Trump.
Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Javad Zarif stated: “As an Iranian, I am deeply outraged by U.S. President Trump’s reckless aggression and his crude, insulting rhetoric; yet, at the same time, I take immense pride in our military and our resilient people. I remain conflicted about publishing this peace proposal in Foreign Affairs. Nevertheless, I am firmly convinced that this war must ultimately conclude on terms that align with Iran’s national interests.”
Day 35 of the U.S.-Israel vs. Iran Conflict
It is worth noting that Iran’s former Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, served for many years as the principal face of Iran in negotiations with the United States and other nations regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Today marks the 35th day of the conflict between Iran and the U.S.-Israel alliance; yet, despite the passage of time, the attacks show no signs of ceasing. Meanwhile, the various claims made by U.S. President Trump regarding a potential ceasefire appear to be falling short.
