The immense box-office success of producer-director Aditya Dhar's film, Dhurendhar: The Revenge, has left even the residents of Lyari—a neighborhood in Karachi, Pakistan—dazzled. Disillusioned with the Pakistani government—which is constantly begging for loans on every international platform—the people of Lyari have demanded that the Indian filmmakers share up to 80 percent of the film's earnings with them.
Asserting their claim over the film—which is officially banned in Pakistan—the residents of Lyari demanded a sum of 500 crore rupees to fund the construction of local roads and the installation of manhole covers. Another individual suggested that they be given a share amounting to 80 percent of the profits. This demand arose after the Ranveer Singh-starrer Hindi film crossed the 1,500-crore-rupee mark in global earnings.
Lyari Residents Demand a Share of Dhurendhar-2's Earnings
The film's narrative is woven around the setting of Lyari. However, the movie was not actually filmed in Pakistan. In videos that have gone viral on social media, local residents argued that since the film utilized Lyari's name and backdrop, the neighborhood should receive a share of the financial benefits. One resident remarked that the local roads could only be improved "if India pays up."
In a social media video, a young man from Lyari was even seen claiming that the film was, in fact, shot in Lyari, and that Ranveer Singh and the other cast members would arrive at night to film their scenes and return to India by morning.
