Mumbai Police has issued a third summons to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra. He has been asked to appear on April 5 in connection with making derogatory remarks about the state's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Police officials said that he was summoned by the police twice before, but he did not join the investigation.
A controversy has arisen after a parody song sung at a show in Mumbai. In the parody, Kunal Kamra targeted Shinde, the Shiv Sena chief after the rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray, and called him a traitor.

Although Shinde was not named in the song, last month angry Shiv Sena workers vandalized the studio where the show was recorded. Khar police registered an FIR against Kamra under sections related to defamation of the Indian Justice Code on the complaint of a Shiv Sena MLA.

Officials said that on Monday, a team of Khar police went to Kamra's house in Mumbai's Mahim area, where his family lives, to find out if he would appear before the police.
