Lockdown may continue in Maharashtra till end of May, Uddhav Thackeray signs

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, while addressing an all-party leaders meeting through video conference on Thursday, indicated that the lockdown could be extended to the end of May in the state's Corona Red Zone. Especially in the metropolitan areas of Mumbai and Pune, which account for 90% of the corona cases in Maharashtra. The extended lockdown is currently scheduled to end on May 17. The leaders suggested to the government at the meeting how the situation could be handled more effectively. BJP's Praveen Darekar, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council and underprivileged Bahujan Aghadi leader Prakash Ambedkar said that CM wants to push the lockout further.

 

 

MNS chief Raj Thackeray said that the SRPF platoon should be deployed exclusively in control areas in Mumbai. Some other leaders spoke of stranded migrants and lack of coordination in the administration, which resulted in orders to open liquor and standalone shops. Former CM Devendra Fadnavis said that the situation in Mumbai was critical and the dead bodies were lying next to the patients admitted in Covid-19 ward. He said that the move to open liquor shops in Mumbai was not right. Patients should be tested. The state should announce a fiscal package to revive the industrial sector. He said that plans should be made to restart the economy.

 

 

Kapil Patil of Lok Bharti said that at least MMR and PMR showed all signs of a lockdown continuing till the end of the month. “I raised the issue of lack of availability of beds. Even policemen are finding it difficult to get beds. In addition, self-employed people such as plumbers and maids should be allowed to work. Raj Thackeray left the meeting after saying his word. He was the only leader in the meeting who did not wear a mask. Raj said that the state should declare the exit plan 10-15 days in advance so that people are aware of what is allowed and when. This will protect against confusion and the crowd should be controlled during Eid....
