India Vs England 3rd Test: England lead by 345 runs on the second day, English batsman Root who scored the most runs in 1 calendar year as captain

The third match of the 5-Test series between India and England is being played at Headingley, Leeds. Joe Root joined the club to score the most centuries in Tests against India. With the help of his 121 runs, England made 423 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Team India was all out for just 78 runs in the first innings. In such a situation, England has a lead of 345 runs.

 

On the second day, England's Ollie Robinson returned unbeaten on 0 and Craig Overton scored 24 runs. Shami took 3 wickets for India. While Mohammad Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja took 2 wickets each. Apart from this, Jasprit Bumrah got 1 wicket.

 

England's top-4 batsman scored 50+ runs

 

Rory Burns was dismissed for 61 runs off 153 balls. He was clean bowled by Mohammed Shami. Before being dismissed, Burns scored the 10th fifty of his Test career.

After this Ravindra Jadeja clean bowled Haseeb Hameed. He got out after scoring 68 runs. This was Jadeja's first wicket of this series.

Malan lost his wicket in the last over before tee time. He got out after scoring 70 runs. This was his 7th fifty.

Siraj got Malan caught by wicketkeeper Pant. The first on-field umpire had declared him not out.

After this, captain Virat Kohli used the review when Siraj said with confidence. In the review, the TV umpire declared out.

There was a partnership of 139 runs between Root and Malan. Jonny Bairstow was dismissed after scoring 29 runs. He was caught by Shami at the hands of Kohli.

Bairstow shared a 52-run partnership with Root for the fourth wicket. Jos Buttler was dismissed for 7 runs. He was caught by Shami at the hands of Ishant.

Root hit his 23rd century. He got out after scoring 121 runs. Bumrah clean bowled him.

Moeen Ali departs after scoring 8 runs. He was caught by Jadeja at the hands of substitute fielder Axar Patel.

 

Most centuries in Tests between the two countries

Root scored his 8th overall and third consecutive Test century against India. He equaled the record of Steve Smith, Ricky Ponting, Vivian Richards, and Gary Sobers for most centuries against India. Root has become the batsman to score the most centuries in the Test between India and England. He broke the records of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, and Alastair Cook. All three had scored 7 centuries against each other.

 

It was Root's 12th century for England as Test captain. He also equaled Cook's record in this matter. Root has scored 6 centuries in 2021. He is the third batsman from England to do so. Earlier Dennis Compton had achieved this feat in 1947 and Michael Vaughan in 2002.

 

A score of 50+ for the fourth time in this series

In this series, Root scored 50+ runs for the fourth time in a row. He has scored 5 consecutive 50+ runs against India in England. He had earlier scored 125 runs in the second innings of the Kennington Oval Test in 2018, 64 and 109 in the first Test (Nottingham) of this series (2021), and 180 runs at Lord's.

 

Root holds the record for scoring the most runs in a calendar year as an English captain. In this case, Root broke the record of former cricketer Alastair Cook. Cook had scored 1364 runs in a calendar year in 2015. Routes have overtaken this in 2021.

 

Hameed and Burns batted brilliantly

The 135-run partnership between Burns and Haseeb is the first opening century partnership against India at their home ground in the last 10 years. Earlier in 2011, Andrew Strauss and Alistair Cook had a partnership of 186 runs at Edgbaston.

 

It is also the biggest opening partnership for England since 2016. In 2016, there was an opening partnership of 180 runs between Cook and Haseeb.

 

English players came on the field with a black band

England's batsmen came on the field on Friday wearing a black band. He wore this bandage in memory of former English captain Ted Dexter. He died on Thursday at the age of 86. Ted is considered one of the best cricketers in England. Helped in the ranking system of Test players in 1986. This ranking was later adopted by the ICC and today the ranking of batsmen, bowlers, and all-rounders is done on this basis.

 

Team India got all out for 78 runs

Earlier, Team India was reduced to 78 runs. This is India's third-lowest score in Tests against England and 9th overall. India lost their last 5 wickets within 11 runs and 28 minutes. Only 2 Indian batsmen could touch the double-figure. Rohit Sharma was the highest scorer with 19 runs.

 

Apart from this, Virat Kohli could score 7 runs, Cheteshwar Pujara 1 run, Lokesh Rahul 0, Ajinkya Rahane 18 runs, and Pant could score 2 runs. James Anderson and Craig Overton took 3-3 and Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran took 2-2 wickets.
