The Budget Session of Parliament is underway. Meanwhile, the opposition submitted a notice of no-confidence against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, following which flaws have been identified in the notice, prompting amendments.
In fact, 118 MPs have signed the no-confidence motion. Meanwhile, according to Lok Sabha sources, Speaker Om Birla has directed the Secretariat to amend the flawed notice submitted by the opposition to prevent it from being rejected and has ordered immediate action.
Flaws Found in the No-Confidence Motion Notice
According to Lok Sabha Secretariat sources, deficiencies have been found in the notice submitted by opposition MPs seeking the removal of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The notice mentions events of February 2025 four times, which, according to the rules, could have led to its rejection.
However, the Speaker has directed the Secretariat to correct the deficiencies in the notice and take further action. Om Birla has ordered prompt action in accordance with the rules. The notice will be listed after the second phase of the Budget Session begins. Upon receiving the amended notice, it will be immediately examined according to established rules.
Discussion on No-Confidence Motion Possible on March 9th
The opposition's no-confidence motion may be discussed in Parliament on March 9th. February 13th is the last day of the first session of the Budget Session. After this, the House will resume proceedings on March 8th, and a discussion may take place on March 9th.
