Lok Sabha elections are being held even amidst the ongoing violence in Manipur. Due to allegations of rigging during the first phase of voting on April 19, it was decided to conduct re-voting at 11 polling stations. Re-polling is taking place today in 11 election centers of Inner Manipur. A video regarding re-polling has also been released on social media, which shows the view from a polling booth in Moirangkampu Sajeb in East Imphal. People have gathered here to vote again.
Re-polling is also being conducted in the Khurai assembly constituency of East Imphal. During this period, tight security arrangements have been made outside the polling booth. Here too people have gathered once again to vote.
Voting was held for two Lok Sabha seats
Let us tell you that during the voting held on Friday for two Lok Sabha seats of Manipur, Congress had demanded re-polling at 47 polling stations, alleging election rigging and booth capturing. However, after considering the objections, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) announced re-polling only at 11 centers.
According to the Election Commission official, the polling stations where re-polling will be conducted include Moirangkampu Sazeb and Thongam Leekai of Khurai constituency, four in Kshetrigao, one in Thongju of Imphal East district, three in Uripok and one in Konthoujam of Imphal West district. The Center is included.
Allegations of rigging during voting
Allegations of firing, threats, vandalism of EVMs at some polling stations, and capturing of polling stations were reported from Manipur, which is affected by caste conflict. Voting for Manipur's two Lok Sabha seats, Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur, took place in the first phase on Friday and 72 percent of voters exercised their franchise.
Manipur unit president of the Congress party, who has alleged rigging, K. Meghchandra said the party complained to the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur. There was a demand for re-polling at 36 polling stations of ‘Inner Manipur’ constituency and 11 polling stations of the ‘Outer Manipur’ constituency.
