A stampede-like situation arose in the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela on Wednesday morning after lakhs of devotees thronged there on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. Many people are reported to be injured in the accident. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about the situation of the Kumbh Mela. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed to the devotees on 'X' that those who are near the ghat of Maa Ganga, should bathe there and not try to go towards Sangam Nose.

Samajwadi Party chief and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav expressed grief over the accident. He said, 'The news of casualties of devotees in the mismanagement accident in Maha Kumbh is very sad. Tribute! We appeal to our government to make immediate medical arrangements by taking the seriously injured to the nearest best hospitals with the help of air ambulances. Arrangements should be made to identify the bodies of the deceased and hand them over to their relatives and send them to their place of residence.'
He said, 'Immediate efforts should be made to reunite those who are separated. Surveillance should be increased by making good use of helicopters. Keeping the unbroken-amrit tradition of 'Shahi Snan' going on since the Satyuga, arrangements should be made to conduct the 'Shahi Snan of Mauni Amavasya' amidst safe management parallel to relief work.'
Akhilesh said that we also appeal to the devotees to work with restraint and patience in this difficult time and complete their pilgrimage peacefully. The government should learn a lesson from today's incident and make additional arrangements for the stay, food, water, and other facilities of the devotees. He also criticized the government. He alleged that half-baked arrangements, VIP movement, paying more attention to self-promotion than management, and mismanagement are responsible for this. Such arrangements despite spending thousands of crores are condemnable. Many important royal baths are still left, so the central and state governments should now be alert and improve the system so that such unpleasant incidents do not happen in the future.
He said that the arrangements for the stay, food, first aid, and movement of the devotees should be expanded and VIP movement should be curbed. This is what our saints also want. Our Congress workers are requested to provide all possible help to the victims.
