PAK vs NAM: Pakistan's World Cup journey at stake, defeat today means elimination from the tournament!

Posted on 18th Feb 2026 01:49 pm by rohit kumar

Pakistan's T20 World Cup campaign has reached a crucial juncture. For the Salman Agha-led team, today's final league match against Namibia is a do-or-die situation. A win is crucial for Pakistan to keep their Super 8 hopes alive. A loss could end their journey prematurely.

Pakistan T20 World Cup Super 8 Qualification Scenario

Indeed, the Pakistani team (PAK vs NAM Today's Match) is under immense pressure ahead of the match against Namibia. After their Asia Cup defeat to India, lofty claims were made that the team was stronger than ever, but Sunday's crushing 61-run defeat against India exposed those claims.

Although the India-Pakistan matches in the 2022 and 2024 T20 World Cups were very close, Pakistan failed to cross the line.

Senior Pakistani players, especially Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi, were targeted by criticism. Shaheen Afridi was unable to control the game in the powerplay or be effective in the death overs. He conceded 31 runs in his two-over spell and took only one wicket.

Changes May Happen in the Pakistani Team

There is considerable unease in the Pakistani camp after a string of poor performances. In the event of a change in today's match, Salman Mirza and Fakhar Zaman are strong contenders for a place in the team. Pakistan's biggest concern is their bowling balance. In the last three matches, the team has relied heavily on spinners (13, 16, and 18 overs of spin), indicating that they are still searching for the right bowling combination. Even though Namibia is out of the race for this World Cup, they will not take this match lightly.

An Opportunity to Prepare Before the Super 8

On the other hand, Team India is in a strong position. With three consecutive wins, India has already secured its place in the Super 8. Tonight's match against the Netherlands is a great opportunity for India to improve on its shortcomings.

Abhishek Sharma's form:

India's star opener Abhishek Sharma has been quiet so far in this World Cup. The team management would like Abhishek to spend time at the crease and regain his confidence by scoring some runs before the big knockout matches.

A possible bowling reshuffle:

India has already qualified for the Super 8, so they may test their bench strength. Arshdeep Singh may return today in place of Kuldeep Yadav, who played as an extra spinner against Pakistan. India's main goal is to form its most balanced and lethal playing XI for the Super 8.
