In response to the protest by traders against the slapping of a food stall owner in Maharashtra, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) took out a rally in Mira Bhayander area. During this, MNS workers raised slogans against the government. The workers accused the government of not allowing the protest. The police took MNS workers and leaders into custody. At the same time, CM Fadnavis gave clarification on the allegation of not allowing the protest.
Last week, a food stall owner in the Mira Bhayander area was slapped by some MNS workers for not speaking in Marathi. Seven MNS members were later detained and released after the police gave them notice.
Traders of Bhayander area had protested demanding action against those who attacked the food stall owner. On Tuesday, MNS took out a rally in response to the protest by traders. During this, the workers raised slogans against the government. During this, MNS workers were detained by the police. Earlier, the police had detained MNS leader Avinash Jadhav.
Additional CP Datta Shinde said that one of the reasons for not allowing the protest was an incident that happened here earlier. The police are fully alert and is taking legal action to maintain law and order here. The situation is peaceful. We are telling people not to gather here. Avinash Jadhav is in custody.
Maharashtra government minister Pratap Sarnaik reached out to join the protest, MNS workers called him a traitor
Maharashtra minister Pratap Baburao Sarnaik broke ties with his government on Tuesday and reached Mira Bhayander to support the MNS protest. But instead of welcoming him, MNS workers called him a traitor. The workers forced the minister to leave the spot. The minister went back as the crowd became violent. Earlier, the minister said that the police may try to arrest him, but he will join the protest.
CM Fadnavis clarifies
On MNS's counter protest, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that it would be wrong to say that we did not allow the protest at Mira Road. I have spoken to the commissioner. He told me that the police have not denied permission for the protest. They had sought permission for a meeting. We were giving them that permission, but they wanted to take out a protest march on a route where it was not possible to do so. We asked them to take an alternate route, but they did not agree to it. It would be wrong to say that they were not given permission.
Maharashtra minister Yogesh Ramdas Kadam said that there is no politics in this. The place for which they have sought permission may create some problems. We have asked them to change the place, and then permission will be given. But they are not ready to change the place.
