The case regarding the upcoming film "The Kerala Story 2" is pending before the Kerala High Court. The High Court has temporarily halted the film's release. The court has ordered that the film not be released until the petitions challenging its release are heard.
What are the petitions?
The court made this statement during the hearing of three petitions. The petitions filed in the High Court challenge the certification granted to the makers of "The Kerala Story 2" by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). These petitions claim that the film portrays Kerala in a negative light and could lead to a law and order situation.
Court Warning
Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas stated that if the makers require more time for arguments, he will continue the case on Thursday. He also stated that the film should not be released until the arguments are complete.
Citing Harmony
In three petitions challenging the film's release, the petitioners stated that both the film's title and promotional material portray Kerala in a negative light. They contain themes that could disrupt harmony and lead to a law-and-order situation. One petition also sought directions to remove "Kerala" from the title.
Uproar After Trailer Release
The film "The Kerala Story 2," produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, received strong reactions on social media after the trailer was released. Users strongly objected to a scene in the film in which a woman is forcibly fed prohibited meat.
Court Expresses Desire to Watch the Film
On Tuesday, the Kerala High Court expressed its desire to watch the film. The makers informed the court that "The Kerala Story 2" had received approval from the CBFC. Following this, the petitioners also questioned the CBFC's approval.
