The ability to learn is decreasing by the time of classes VIII and X as compared to classes III, and V. This disclosure has been made in the report of the National Achievement Survey 2021. It focused on competency-based assessment in language, mathematics, environmental science, social science, and English.
It found that as they move to higher grades, the level of learning in students
(achievements) decline. At the national level, the average performance of students on a scale of 500 tends to decline in higher classes. The national average performance of a student in the language in class III is 323 out of 500 and in class X it has come down to 260. At the same time, the national average score at the Class III level in Mathematics is 306, which comes down to 284. It has gone up to 255 in Class V and Class VIII and 220 in Class X. The special thing is that the report of class 3rd and 5th in Delhi government schools is very good. This is extremely low as compared to the national average.
The Department of School Education and Literacy, Union Ministry of Education released the National Achievement Survey 2021 report on Wednesday evening. It assesses the health of the school education system in the country by conducting a comprehensive assessment survey of the learning ability of children in classes III, V, VIII, and X with a cycle duration of three years. It also reflects the overall assessment of the school education system. Earlier the last report was released in 2017.
According to the report, the examination for the National Achievement Survey 2021 was conducted on November 12 across the country. Students from all government, government-aided and private schools in the country participated in it. A total of 34,01,158 students and 26,824 teachers from around 1,18,274 schools participated in the survey. This report on the school performance of most of the states and union territories is not good. But Punjab, Kerala, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal, Maharashtra, and Chandigarh report better than the national average.
38 percent of the students believed that education was difficult in the epidemic
Of the 3.4 million school students in third, fifth, eighth, and 10th grades across the country, 38 percent said the pandemic had a difficult phase on their education. While 24 percent said they did not have access to digital devices at home. This means that almost a quarter of school students do not have access to a digital device at home.
