Amid growing tension in the world, the US Navy has raised the concern of western countries by saying that China has gained an edge over America in naval power. China now has a larger fleet than the US and has gained more capability than the US in terms of shipbuilding. This assessment of the US Navy has come to the fore this week.
Addressing a meeting at the National Press Club in Washington, US Navy Secretary Carlos del Toro said that China constantly tries to violate the maritime sovereignty of other countries. With this, it is hurting the economic interests of America's allies in the South China Sea. He said- China is now deploying more fleets around the world. In response, America should also modernize its naval power. Toro said the US would need more ships in the future to counter the growing threat.
According to analysts, the ears of American strategists were raised by Toro's statement. Toro also gave a comparative description of the capabilities possessed by the navies of the two countries. According to this, China will be in a position to deploy around 400 warships in the coming years, while the US currently has only 340 such ships.
The US Defense Ministry Pentagon released its naval planning document last year. According to him, the Pentagon aims to provide 350 fighter ships to the US Navy by the year 2045. But analysts say that this number will be much less than in China. The US Congressional Budget Office pointed out in a report last November that many US warships are aging and will have to be retired. This will further reduce the number of ships in the US Navy.
Del Toro's statement added to concerns that the US is no longer in a position to match China's shipbuilding and repair capabilities. He said- 'China has 13 shipyards and some of their shipyards are of high capacity. The capacity of one of their shipyards is more than the combined capacity of all our shipyards. This is the biggest danger before us.
A report by the American think tank Center for National Defense last October said that there are seven shipyards in the US where large and deep-going ships are built for the Navy. While del Toro said that the problem is not just the number of shipyards. Rather, employees are needed to work in shipyards and China has a huge advantage in this matter.
The US Congressional Research Service reported last November that the US Navy has taken measures to bridge the gap with China. Under this, more ships have been deployed in the Pacific Ocean and they have also been made more capable.
