Hyderabad, Jan 1 (IANS) New Year revelry claimed two lives and injured a few others in road accidents in and around the city.
As many as 15 accidents occurred since Wednesday midnight. While two youths were killed in two separate accidents, more than 10 were injured in other accidents.
A youngster was killed when he lost control of the motor bike he was riding and hit a tree near the Jubliee Hills checkpost.
The precautionary traffic restrictions imposed by police and the special drive against drunken driving brought down the toll this time. Six revelers were killed in accidents last year.
Police had closed all flyovers in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and adjacent Cyberabad for traffic. Restrictions were also imposed on Outer Ring Road.
Police conducted a special drive against drunken driving at several places in and around the city. As many as 400 cases were registered during the drive.
Police said action was taken against a few pubs and bars where New Year celebrations continued beyond 1 a.m.
