"We have good relations with 38 MLAs in Bengal...21 so we are in direct contact... Now the music launch is there. The film is yet to release with a bang."
BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty said this on July 27 in Kolkata. After this, speculations started being made about whether BJP is preparing to play like Maharashtra in Bengal too.
If we came to know about the ground reality of the BJP in Bengal after Mithun's statement, then the truth turned out to be something else. In the 2021 assembly elections, out of 294 assembly seats in Bengal, the BJP had won 77.
Two of the 77 MLAs, Nishith Pramanik and Jagannath Sarkar, resigned after the results. Both of them are MPs from BJP. The party had made him contest the assembly elections. After the victory, he decided to leave the legislature and stay in the Parliament.
With this, the number of BJP MLAs increased to 75. Now, this number has come down to 69. 6 MLAs have left BJP and went to TMC. Two out of 18 BJP MPs have also joined TMC.
Whereas after the results, not a single MLA-MP or big leader of TMC joined the BJP. All those who had attended had already participated before the election.
He didn't say that he wants to join BJP.
How much truth is there in Mithun Chakraborty's statement, it can be gauged from the statement of BJP's Bengal's strong leader Shubhendu Adhikari. When Shubhendu was asked about Mithun's statement, he said, "I am not aware of this. Only Mithun will be able to tell about this.
BJP Bengal chief spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya said, 'Mithun did not say that TMC MLAs want to join BJP. He even said that TMC MLAs are in touch. There's nothing wrong with that. Mithun was earlier in TMC, so he is in touch with many MLAs.
MLAs are scared of BJP
Krishna Kalyani had won the election from Raiganj Vidhan Sabha on a BJP ticket. On 27 October 2021, he left the BJP and joined TMC. Last month, he was made the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
As soon as Rai was crowned, a notice has been sent to his company Kalyani Solvex Pvt Ltd under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act 2002.
A long list of questions has been sent to them. He is the second TMC leader after Partha Chatterjee, on whom the ED has clamped down.
Snigdhendu Bhattacharya, who has a deep hold in Bengal politics, says, 'Because of ED, BJP MLAs are scared of their party. Many want to join TMC, but they know that as soon as they leave the party, the ED's baton will run on them. Because of this, they are not able to leave the party.
At the same time, there are some MLAs who, despite being in the BJP, are working in favor of TMC. The alliance has been made through mutual talks because it is very difficult to fight the ruling party in Bengal.
Either face Delhi or TMC
Bhattacharya says, 'BJP has taken action against Kalyani and has given a clear message to the rest of the MLAs that action will be taken if they leave the party. It is proving to be a challenge for the BJP to save its winning MLAs.
"MLAs who are not leaving BJP are facing TMC. Now Bengal has two equations. First, those who feel that it is easier to face Delhi than TMC are leaving the BJP.
Second, those who feel that there is more fear than Delhi, remain in the BJP. Mamta government is also tightening the noose on BJP MLAs in different cases through CID.
The CID is currently interrogating the daughter of BJP MLA Niladri Shekhar Dana. It is alleged that the MLA got his daughter a job in Kalyani AIIMS with his influence.
left the party to save the family
BJP spokesperson Shamik Bhattacharya on 6 MLAs leaving the party says, 'Some left the party out of fear. Some did this to save the family. Some were liking the ruling party as well, so they left.
On the action of the ED, he says, 'There is nothing like that action is being taken against the one who is leaving the party. The TMC made the MLA who left the BJP the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, while this post goes to the Leader of the Opposition.
Officially said that he is an MLA from BJP. All this is being seen by the public.
