Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Tuesday that the proposed Data Protection Bill will curb misuse of data related to consumers and also provide for punitive action against the guilty. Chandrasekhar has made this comment in the context of allegations of misuse of consumer data in the US on the giant Internet company Google. Google was accused of monitoring the location of its users without their consent. However, Google has entered into a settlement agreement with the US government to close the investigation, under which it will pay approximately $392 million.

Chandrasekhar said in one of his tweets, "Such misuse of consumer data violates the expectations of privacy and data protection." India's Digital Data Protection Bill will put a stop to this and ensure that any internet platform or intermediary doing such a thing faces punitive and financial consequences. had taken

 

At the same time, the government had said that it would bring a new law to harmonize the overall legal framework. Let us tell you that the government had withdrawn the Personal Data Protection Bill from the Parliament in August last.
