After the horrific train accident in Odisha, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) worked tirelessly day and night to carry out relief and rescue operations. Hundreds of workers were engaged in this day and night. Due to the continuous evacuation of dead bodies and injured, different symptoms have started appearing in many NDRF personnel.
Food and drink stopped for rescue workers
Addressing the Annual Conference 2023 on Capacity Building for Disaster Response, NDRF Director General Atul Karwal said that he met my personnel involved in the rescue operation after the Balasore train accident. A worker told me that whenever he sees water, he feels it like blood. Another rescuer told that after this rescue operation, he has lost his appetite.
Counseling is done for rescue workers
The NDRF Director General, who recently visited the accident site, said the force has started psychological counseling and mental stability courses for its personnel on their return from rescue and relief operations.
He said that such counseling for good mental health is being done for our personnel who are involved in rescue and relief operations in disaster-hit areas. Karwal said that after a special exercise conducted in this regard since last year, 95 percent of the nearly 18,000 personnel were found to be correct.
Terrible train accident in Odisha
Significantly, this horrific accident happened last Friday i.e. on June 2 near Bahanaga station near Balasore, Odisha. There were three trains involved in this. A goods train, which was standing in the loop line, and two super fast express trains - Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Super Fast Express and Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal-Howrah Super Fast Express, with a total of 17 coaches derailed.
During this, the Coromandel was the first to collide with the goods train, causing 12 coaches of the train to derail and some to move onto the adjacent track, on which the Bangalore-bound Yesvantpur-Howrah Express was passing. This train collided with these coaches and a horrific accident took place. 275 people have died in this accident and thousands of people have been injured.
