IPL's new sensation Mayank Yadav may be being talked about all over the world for his speed, but there was a time when he used to come to practice in a carpool. Former DDCA selector and former player Chetanya Nanda had seen him at St. Stephen's ground in Delhi a few years ago and was so impressed by his bowling that he decided to select him for the senior Delhi team.
Nanda said that about five years ago, for the first time, I saw Mayank at St. Stephen's Ground, where he was playing against Madhya Pradesh in the Under-19 match from Delhi. Someone had told me about Mayank and that he bowls very fast. Mayank had taken seven wickets in that match. The pitch was suitable for batting, on which Mayank did not allow the Madhya Pradesh batsmen to survive.
After this, we wanted to send Mayank to Under-23 from Delhi, but then he suffered an ankle injury. We were waiting for Mayank to recover. He was fit, but could not find a place in the team combination. Nanda said that Mayank is a very ordinary boy and comes from a very ordinary background. In 2020, when we started inviting him to the senior team camp in Delhi, he used to face a lot of difficulty in coming.
Sometimes he used to come by car pool and sometimes he used to come with someone to practice. Impressed by his bowling, we decided to introduce him to the ODI team and keep him with the Ranji team so that he becomes even better. In 2021, we selected him for the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Delhi. Then Mayank made us win the match against Haryana in Chandigarh.
He came to bowl the 49th over. He took three wickets and did not concede a single run. Its name came into the discussion from that match. Nanda said that if Mayank keeps himself injury-free, he can become the best fast bowler.

Harshit got a chance due to an injury
Nanda said that seeing Mayank's skill, and the way we supported it, many people also raised objections, but we were firm on our decision. We had a pool of eight to 10 players. When Mayank got injured, Harshit Rana got a chance to play before him. The most special thing about Mayank is that he bowls naturally fastball.
The way he has performed in the IPL, I think Mayank will get a chance to play for the country very soon. On the possibility of being selected in the T20 World Cup, Nanda said that when the bowler is at his peak, he must be played. Right now Mayank is in good form and his confidence might also have increased. Big teams might not have even played him, so taking Mayank could be shocking for other teams.
Impressed by the speed, Dahiya had chosen the LSG team.
LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya said that when I was the coach of the UP team in the Ranji Trophy. We were playing in Mohali. The Delhi team was also practicing in the nets near us. I was stunned to see a boy there, it was Mayank. His runup was fantastic.
There were many famous batsmen in the nets and Mayank was troubling them with his balls. After that, I talked to him and asked for some of his videos. I said that I was asking this not for myself, but for Lucknow Supergiants. You are coming to Lucknow.
