Onam 2023: South India immersed in Onam celebrations, people arrive at temples to worship; Tamil Nadu CM extended best wishes

There is an atmosphere of celebration in South India today. Everyone is excited about Onam, the major festival that lasts for 10 days. People are reaching the temples to worship. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wished everyone a happy Onam in Malayalam. Meanwhile, former Rajya Sabha MP and actor Suresh Gopi inaugurated Onam celebrations at the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. Besides these, Prince Aditya Varma of the Travancore royal family also arrived to be a part of the Onam celebrations.

 

That's why we celebrate this festival

 

Let us tell you, that Onam is also known as Thiruvonam in the Malayalam language. Onam is specially celebrated for good crop yield in the fields. It is said that there was an Asura king named Mahabali in Kerala. This festival is celebrated only in his honor. Apart from this, this festival is also dedicated to the Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu.

 

This festival is celebrated for 12 days. Mainly it is of 10 days. This year Onam started on the 20th of August and this festival is being celebrated till the 31st of August. The first day of Onam is called Atham and the 10th day is called Thiruvonam. On the occasion of Onam, there is a festive atmosphere in South India, especially in Kerala. People celebrating the festival of Onam make Rangoli in the courtyard of the house and worship.

Everyone is looking enthusiastic about the festival. Devotees arrive to participate in the rituals being performed at Thrikkakkara Vamana Murthy Temple, in Kochi, on the occasion of Onam. At the same time, a large number of devotees have also reached the Thrikkakara Vamana Murthy temple in Kochi.

Significantly, the festival of Onam is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Thrissur, which is considered the cultural capital of Kerala. Pulikali i.e. Tiger Dance is performed on the occasion of Onam. At the same time, Thrikkara Temple is located in Ernakulam itself, where special celebrations are organized on Onam. A visit to this temple during Onam gives one an experience of the rich cultural as well as spiritual journey of Kerala. This temple is dedicated to the Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that the festival of Onam started from this place.
