Passenger plane crashes in Lake Victoria in Tanzania: Plane crashed just before landing, 19 killed

The plane sank in Lake Victoria in Tanzania on Sunday. 19 people are reported to have died in the accident. 49 passengers were present in the plane, out of which 23 people have been rescued.

 

According to Tanzanian police, the plane crashed into the lake due to bad weather. The plane was supposed to land in the northwest city of Bukoba, during which the accident happened. Police said that the rescue operation is going on to rescue the passengers. A similar incident happened in northern Tanzania 5 years ago. A Safari company plane had crashed, in which 11 people were killed.

 

The crash happened near the airport

According to reports, the accident took place just 100 meters from the Bukoba airport. The plane belongs to Precision Air Company, the largest private airline in Tanzania. The company stated after the accident that the rescue team has been sent to the spot. More information will be released in the next two hours.

In this incident, DGCA said that during takeoff a loud bang was heard in the engine-2 of the flight, due to which it caught fire.
