PM Modi: PM Modi inaugurated many metro projects; the Country's first underwater metro was also inaugurated

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated several metro projects in the country. This also includes the country's first underwater metro line in Kolkata. During this, the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of the East-West Corridor of Kolkata Metro, built for Rs 4,965 crore, was also inaugurated. This is the country's first transport tunnel under any major river. Howrah Metro station built in this section will also be the deepest station in the country. After the inauguration program, Prime Minister Modi traveled by metro from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan with school students.

 

The green signal given to these metro services

Officials said the inner river portion of the tunnel is 520 meters long and the train will take about 45 seconds to cross it. From the venue of the ceremony at Esplanade Metro station, the Prime Minister also inaugurated the Kavi Subhash-Hemant Mukhopadhyay section of the New Garia-Airport Line and the Taratala-Majerhat section of the Joka-Esplanade Line of Kolkata Metro, the country's oldest metro network. Majerhat Metro Station is a unique station built over a railway line, platform, and canal.

 

The foundation stone for the expansion of the Pune Metro was also laid

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, the Ruby Hall Clinic-Ramwadi section of the Pune Metro, the SN Junction to Tripunithura section of the Kochi Metro and the Taj East Gate-Mankameshwar section of the Agra Metro. He also laid the foundation stone for the extension of Pune Metro between Pimpri Chinchwad and Nigdi.

PM Modi also had a long conversation with the metro employees. During this time, Bengal BJP President Sukant Majumdar, Leader of Opposition in Bengal Assembly, and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari were also present with him on the train.

 

Know its specialty also

 

The total length of the tunnel between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade is 4.8 kilometers.

 

The 1.2 km tunnel lies 30 meters below the Hooghly River, making it the country's first transport tunnel under any major river.

 

Apart from this, Howrah Metro Station, established under the Hooghly River, will also be the deepest station in the country.

 

This tunnel is a part of the East-West Metro Corridor project.

 

The corridor is currently in commercial operation from Salt Lake Sector 5 to Sealdah.

 

The corridor was identified in 1971

According to Metro Rail, this corridor was identified in the city's master plan in 1971. Metro Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Kaushik Mitra said that Howrah and Kolkata are two centuries-old historical cities of West Bengal and this tunnel will connect these two cities under the Hooghly River.
