This will be the first visit of an Indian PM to Ukraine, a country formed in 1991 after separating from the former Soviet Republic. On Friday, he will have a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in the capital Kyiv. Stating leaving for Poland, PM Modi has expressed hope that he will hold talks with Ukrainian President Zelensky to end the Ukraine-Russia tension.

Poland is an important partner of India: PM Modi

Describing India as a friend and partner of Ukraine, the PM expressed hope that peace will soon be established in the region. He said, 'I am visiting there on the occasion of the completion of 70 years of diplomatic relations with Poland. Poland is our biggest partner country in Central Europe. Both our countries believe in democracy and a pluralistic system, which further strengthens our relationship. I am looking forward to meeting my friend PM Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda to further strengthen our mutual partnership.'

PM Modi will meet people of the Indian community

PM Modi will also meet the people of the Indian community living in Poland separately. About 25 thousand Indians currently live there, including 5,000 students. Modi further said, 'After Poland, I will visit Ukraine, where I will meet President Zelensky.' This will be the first visit of an Indian PM to Ukraine.

The PM said, 'We will take forward the talks I had with President Zelensky earlier to strengthen bilateral relations and resolve the current Ukraine dispute. I am confident that the visit to both these countries will help further strengthen their relations with India.'

PM Modi will reach Ukraine by special train

The war between Ukraine and Russia has been going on since February 2022. For the last two weeks, there has been news of new fronts opening between their armies on the border of Ukraine and Russia. There are also reports of attacks by the Russian Air Force in the areas around Kyiv. International flights to Kyiv have been stopped due to security reasons.

US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have already visited Ukraine by the same train by which PM Modi will reach Kyiv. The Indian Foreign Ministry has termed Modi's future visit to Ukraine as historic.

Has also visited Russia

All the global leaders who have visited Kyiv since the start of the war are partners of Ukraine and opponents of Russia. Modi will be the first global leader who also has friendly relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Modi went to Moscow on July 09-10, 2024, where he spent five hours at Putin's private residence. Ukrainian President Zelensky and the US State Department and NSA had also expressed great displeasure over this.
