Till now it has been said that tobacco smoke also affects the health of other people living with smokers. Especially the risk of heart disease increases. Now a new study suggests that exposure to thirdhand smoke also increases the risk of skin diseases such as contact dermatitis and psoriasis. Explain that thirdhand smoke is the waste of tobacco smoke, which accumulates in the surface or dust. They can remain on the floor for a long time even indoors and are harmful to both smokers and non-smokers.
...so increases the level of biomarkers related to skin disease
According to this study published in the journal e-Biomedicine, if you stay in an environment with thirdhand smoke for a long time, it increases the level of biomarkers related to skin disease. Biomarkers are the most common natural substances in any disease, which indicate the occurrence of the disease. Researchers claim that this is the first study on human harm caused by exposure to thirdhand smoke (THS). "We found that exposure to THS triggers a mechanism of inflammation in human skin and increases the levels of urinary biomarkers that cause oxidative damage," said University of California researcher Shen Sakamaki-ching. This can lead to diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). The study was conducted at the University of California (UC) San Francisco on 10 healthy, non-smokers aged 22 to 45 years.
Research on thirdhand smoke given such a result
During the study, each participant was put on THS clothing for three hours and asked to run on a treadmill for 15 minutes per hour. During this, it was assessed how much THS they took through the skin and how this amount increased. Sakamaki-Ching said that the analysis found surprisingly that long-term living with THS had the same harmful effects as cigarette smoking. They found that the levels of urinary biomarkers, lipids, and proteins that cause oxidative damage to DNA, increased in those living in an environment with high THS and remained high when they left the environment with THS. The levels of these biomarkers were found to be equally high in cigarette smokers as well. In this way, the findings of our study can help doctors to diagnose individuals who have been exposed to THS and then recommend a home remedy for THS accordingly.
A smoker's car is also very dangerous!
Study author and professor of cell biology, Pru Talbot, said that since the skin is the largest organ in the body and comes in direct contact with TSH, it is most affected. But little is known about the side effects of THS on the skin. He told me that if you have bought a used car from a smoker, then consider that you are putting your health at risk. Your skin may be at risk of THS even if you go to casinos where smoking is allowed. A similar risk can occur when sharing a hotel room with a smoker.
During the study, it was also seen that the participants who were kept in the environment with THS for a relatively short time did not show any significant changes in their skin. Despite this, the blood had higher levels of molecular biomarkers associated with early-stage activation of contact dermatitis, psoriasis, and other skin conditions. This suggests that the effect of THS triggers irritation or inflammation at the molecular level and is the cause of skin disease.
