The seven-day meeting of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is underway and is all set to hand over the third term to President Xi Jinping. On the other hand, the demonstrations against President Xi Jinping before the outcome of the meeting have shown that there is deep dissatisfaction among the people about his policies, especially concerning the strict zero covid policy. People protested against the country's authoritarian system on October 13, just before the start of a five-year national congress in Beijing, the Geneva Daily reported. However, the government left no stone unturned to suppress it.
Thousands of WeChat users freely carried forward anti-Xi narratives after a youth burned a tire near the Ring Road bridge in Beijing and two banners demanding the removal of dictator and traitor Xi Jinping were hung on the Sitong Bridge. The protesters called for an end to the lockdown due to the COVID policy and said they needed to vote. We don't want to be slaves. On Friday, the very next day after the protest, eight marked police cars were parked under and around the Sitong Bridge where protesters criticized the Chinese president for his zero-Covid policy. There was a crowd of officers in plain clothes.
China's zero-covid policy has become a major reason for growing discontent in society. Earlier in Shanghai, thousands of people were separated from their families and children after reports tested positive for achieving the zero-Covid policy goal. According to the Geneva Daily, delays in essential medical treatment and food supplies to affected families had become routine. The Chinese government used its Internet censors to silence dozens of bloggers, academics, and activists, including Fang Bin, Chen Qiushi, Professor Chen Zhaozhi, Chen Mei, and Cai Wei, according to The Geneva Daily. He was brutally silenced by the Chinese government in April 2020 after posting stories, interviews, and personal sufferings of people in Wuhan due to COVID. China is already on high alert as the Party Congress, which is held every five years, has begun on Sunday.
