The Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab presented its first budget on Monday. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema introduced it in the assembly. Cheema has estimated the budget expenditure of one lakh 55 thousand 860 crores for 2022-23. This is 14 percent more than last year. No new tax has been imposed on the budget. The AAP government will fulfill its promise of free electricity from July 1. However, no mention was made in this budget about the promise of giving 1000 rupees per month to women above the age of 18 years. The opposition has called it cheating on women.
Presenting the budget, Cheema said the focus of the government is to restore the deteriorating financial situation, increase income, reduce debt and ensure effective and efficient use of public funds. He said a line in his speech... 'The result of my passion will come out, noor will come out of this dark sea'.

No new tax was imposed in the Punjab budget
An intelligence unit will be formed to prevent tax evasion.
In Punjab, the budget for school and higher education has increased by 16 percent.
There has been an increase of 47 percent in the technical education budget and 57 percent in the medical education budget.
The State Manager will be deployed to improve the infrastructure in the schools.
Teachers and principals will now only teach children. A budget of 123 crores has been kept for this.
16 new medical colleges will be set up in the next five years.
450 crore has been made in the budget for direct sowing.
200 crore has been earmarked for stubble management. Farmers will not burn stubble with this fund so that work will be done.
The government will continue the electricity subsidy given to the farmers. In the budget, the government has made a provision of 6947 crores for free electricity.
A budget of Rs 4731 crore has been kept for health. 24 percent of it
has been increased. At the same time, a provision of 11560 crores has been kept for agriculture.
A budget of 200 crores has been kept to revive Punjabi University Patiala from the financial crisis.
To complete the announcement of recruitment of 26454 employees, a provision of 714 crores has been kept in the budget.
An additional provision of Rs 540 crore has been made in the budget to ensure 36000 contractual employees.
The Punjab government will eliminate the liabilities of cooperative banks. For this, a provision of 688 crores has been made in the budget.
For wild animals, the government is going to start a scheme in the name of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Under this scheme, 50 thousand rupees will be given to each assembly constituency of the state. A provision of 10 crores has been made under this scheme in the budget.
350 crore bailout package has been issued for settlement of NPA accounts of PUNSAP.
At present 100 services are being provided in Jan Seva Kendras. The government will increase the number of these services to 450.
For the traders, the state government will constitute a merchant commission. Its members will be traders only.
The government will start doorstep services on the lines of Delhi. Home delivery of flour will be done by the government.
Chief Minister's offices will be opened in every district of the state so that the Chief Minister can reach the people.
A budget of 130 crores has been kept to give one crore instead of 50 lakh to the kin of the martyrs. The budget has been increased by 11 percent as compared to last year.
108 crore has been earmarked for the modernization of police forces. A budget of 30 crores has been kept for setting up cyber crime cells in all the districts.
100 existing schools in the state will be upgraded as prestigious schools.
These schools will be composite schools from pre-primary to class 12th and will be equipped with excellent infrastructure like digital classrooms, fully equipped labs, vocational training facilities, and trained faculty.
A budget of Rs 23468 crore has been kept for the development of the state's infrastructure.
The total power subsidy of the state will be Rs 15,845.89 crore.
3003 crore budget has been proposed for rural development.
