Former Indian team captain and former chairman of the selection committee Dilip Vengsarkar has targeted fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. He has said that if he is fit, he should play all the matches. The fourth match of the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England will be played from July 23. Reports are raising doubts about Bumrah's availability. However, on Thursday, assistant coach Ryan Deshkate indicated that the fast bowler may be seen playing in the upcoming match.
'You have to play every match'
Ahead of the fourth Test, Dilip Vengsarkar has raised questions on the policy in which the bowler has the right to decide in which matches he can play. The former player told RevSportz, 'I am not in favor of bowlers select Test matches. If you are fit and available, you should play all the matches for your country. Bumrah is a world-class bowler, and he can win matches for India. But once you are on tour, you have to play every match. There is no question of select matches based on personal preference.'
Vengsarkar furious at Gambhir-Agarkar
The first match of the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England was played at Leeds. India had to face defeat by five wickets in this match. Bumrah took five wickets in this match. India made a comeback in the second Test match and won by 336 runs. However, Bumrah did not play in this match. He returned in the third Test, but India lost by 22 runs. Now reports are claiming that Bumrah may get rest in the fourth Test. Vengsarkar further said, 'The important thing is to play for India, and if you are unfit, then do not play at all. After the first Test match, he (Bumrah) got a gap of about 7-8 days, but still he was not included for the second Test, which was not acceptable. Perhaps it was acceptable for Agarkar and Gambhir.'
Deshkate hinted
Bumrah has played two Tests, and he has to play only one of the remaining two Tests. Indian team's assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate said that it is clear that the series is in a decisive situation in Manchester, so we incline to field Bumrah here. However, the decision to play him will be taken at the last moment.
