The bill for 33 percent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies has been passed in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha houses. Many people are seen in favor of it and on the other hand, many people are against it.

After the Women's Reservation Bill was passed in both Houses, women MPs from many parties praised the bill across party lines and described the move as a historic step.

Diya Kumari thanked PM Modi

After the Women's Reservation Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, BJP MP Diya Kumari thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, women are celebrating today. We are very happy with the passing of this bill. Diya Kumari further said that PM Modi finally made this dream come true. This law was the need of the hour and he (PM Modi) realized it. He led the efforts to introduce and pass the bill in two days.

Congress MP Joshimani also expressed happiness over the passage of the bill and said, we are glad that this important piece of legislation is finally close to seeing the light of day.

However, he expressed concern over the implementation of the bill, saying it is sad that this law may not be implemented anytime soon.

Congress MP called this step historic

Another Congress MP Ranjit Ranjan described the passage of the bill as historic.

The bill has now been passed by both houses, he said. This is a happy moment for women in our country.

However, he said, we demanded immediate implementation of the bill with sub-quota for OBC women. But our demand was not considered.

The Upper House on Thursday unanimously passed the bill providing 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha as well as state assemblies, with 214 members voting in support and none voting against.

Voting puts political differences aside

Reacting to the passage of the bill, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Mahua Maji said, it is a historic moment for women. The government received bipartisan support for the bill in both houses of Parliament. What was important to me was that members put aside their political differences to vote in favor of the Bill.

“We give priority to the early implementation of the Bill with the provision of sub-quota for OBC women,” he said.

After the bill was passed in Parliament, 'Modi-Modi' slogans were raised by the women MPs as they took turns thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the passage of the draft legislation.

Women members of both Houses of Parliament, including PT Usha, Union Ministers Meenakshi Lekhi and Smriti Irani, presented a bouquet to Prime Minister Modi on the historic passage of the bill in Parliament.

Later both houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die.

Earlier on Wednesday, the bill passed the legislative test in the Lok Sabha as it was passed with an overwhelming majority of 454 votes in favor and just 2 against.

This bill will create a new confidence in the country- PM

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal gave a brief reply to the day-long debate on the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Upper House of Parliament and said that it will be implemented after following the proper procedure.

Before voting, PM Modi urged Rajya Sabha members to pass the bill unanimously.

He said that this bill would create a new confidence among the people of the country.

He said all members and political parties have played an important role in empowering women and increasing 'Nari Shakti'. Let us give a strong message to the country.

The Rajya Sabha had earlier passed the Women's Reservation Bill in 2010 during the Congress-led UPA government, but it was not brought to the Lok Sabha and later lapsed in the lower house of Parliament.
