The Ministry of Home Affairs has accorded ‘Z’ category security cover to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha. According to sources, this security cover has been provided to Raghav Chadha based on a threat assessment report submitted by the Intelligence Bureau (IB). He will be provided security cover by paramilitary forces in both Delhi and Punjab.
Several media reports have claimed that the ‘Z-Plus’ category security cover previously granted to Raghav Chadha by the Punjab government has been withdrawn. According to sources, this decision was taken due to the AAP leader’s alleged failure to raise key issues related to Punjab in Parliament.
AAP Questions MP’s Performance in Parliament
The Aam Aadmi Party had accused Raghav Chadha of failing to raise important issues concerning Punjab in Parliament. The AAP stated that his inaction ran contrary to the party’s core principles. In a joint statement, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, State AAP President Aman Arora, and party leader Kuldeep Singh Dhingra remarked that Chadha’s silence on several critical matters was disappointing.
The Punjab Finance Minister highlighted several financial matters that were not raised in Parliament. These included the issue of pending Rural Development Fund dues amounting to approximately ₹8,500 crore, and GST-related revenue losses estimated at around ₹60,000 crore. Cheema also drew attention to the financial setbacks resulting from changes in GST compensation norms, as well as issues regarding a shortfall in funds under the National Health Mission.
“I Am Wounded, Hence I Am Formidable”: Raghav Chadha
Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha was removed by the Aam Aadmi Party from the post of Deputy Leader of the Upper House. Concurrently, several serious allegations were leveled against him. MP Raghav Chadha subsequently issued a clarification regarding the accusations made against him. Chadha stated that a concerted campaign was being orchestrated against him—characterized by identical rhetoric and identical allegations. “Initially, I felt I should not respond to this; however, I later realized that if a lie is repeated a hundred times, it begins to sound like the truth,” he remarked.
He further asserted that whenever the Opposition staged a walkout from the House, he, too, had joined them in walking out. “CCTV cameras are installed everywhere in Parliament; simply retrieve and present the footage. That would settle the matter once and for all. He stated that no leader from the AAP had signed the resolution seeking the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner. Raghav Chadha also delivered a dialogue from the film Ghatak, declaring: ‘I am wounded—and that is precisely why I am lethal.’”
