The central government wants to rule half of Punjab without winning elections, this discussion is because the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) has been increased to 50 KM from the border. From the point of view of Punjab, this thing is not just a political discussion, because the geographical data also justifies it. 7 districts directly adjacent to the Pakistan border came under the control of the Centre. At the same time, 3 months before the announcement of the Punjab Assembly elections, the biggest issue of drugs is now in the hands of the Center. In terms of the political aspect of Punjab, this is a big victory for Captain Amarinder, who was forced to leave the chair in humiliation. The decision of the Center has weakened the new government of Punjab's Charanjit Channi.
600 km border adjacent to Pakistan, BSF will see 25 thousand square km area
If we look at the geographical data, the total land area of Punjab is 50,362 square kilometers. The 600 KM area of Punjab is adjacent to Pakistan. If we look at its 50 km radius, then about 25 thousand sq km area is now under the control of BSF. Which 7 big districts of Punjab are Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Pathankot. At the same time, some parts of Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Kapurthala and Jalandhar will come under this purview. From their city to their villages, BSF will now have control.
Important, therefore, BSF has powers like police
BSF in Punjab was till now limited to the border adjacent to Pakistan. Experts say that now BSF has got police-like powers within 50KM. BSF can raid or search anywhere here. Can arrest anyone. You can bring anything with you. There will be no need for any kind of warrant from the magistrate for this. Till now if any input was received, BSF used to share it with Punjab Police. Now this will not happen, BSF has got exemption in NDPS Act, Passport Act, and Customs Act to take direct action.
Possible conflict with villagers and local police
An officer of Punjab Police says that BSF should get powers like Punjab Police, but there are dangers ahead of it. Till now BSF used to take action somewhere with the help of police and then return to the border. Now BSF will take separate action in the same area as the state police. With the new authority, they are no longer needed with the local police. In such a situation, they may clash with the villagers and the local police regarding the action.
Political slap to Congress
There are 2 such election issues in Punjab, which are emotionally related to Punjabis. These include the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and the shooting related to it and the second intoxication. In the case of sacrilege and firing, the Punjab government was able to catch the culprits to some extent. Drug addiction is such an issue, which has made many children orphans in Punjab, while the father had to shoulder the burden of the young son. The action was taken on drugs, but the Punjab government could not catch any big crocodiles. The investigation report of the Punjab government is lying sealed in the High Court. Most of the drugs in Punjab come from across the border, that is, from Pakistan. In such a situation, if the BSF takes big action regarding drugs, then undoubtedly the attitude of the people in Punjab towards the Center will change. This bet is sure to prove to be a big political blow for the Congress in Punjab.
Amarinder's big win after being removed from the chair
This decision is also important for Captain Amarinder Singh. This is a big blow to the Congress government of Punjab after Amarinder stepped down from the chair. In this, the weakness of the Congress leadership in Punjab came to the fore. With the decision to hand over the command, questions are also being raised on the Congress high command. The Center took this decision when CM Charanjit Singh Channi came to Delhi to meet Home Minister Amit Shah. They demanded to seal the border. The Center got this opportunity because Amarinder had also come to Delhi to raise the same issues after resigning.
CM Channi on target of loved ones
The BSF got the rights when CM Charanjit Singh Channi himself went to Delhi and asked to increase the strictness to stop drones and drugs on the border. Captain Amarinder Singh has already said that CM Channi is a good minister, but he has no experience of national security. In such a situation, former Punjab Congress President Sunil Jakhar also took a jibe at CM's meeting with Shah after the new decision. He said that if you ask for anything from someone, then you should be careful. On the issue of security in Punjab, Deputy CM Sukhjinder Randhawa, who became the biggest opponent of CM Channi and Captain, proved to be weak. Randhawa also currently holds the Home Department.
The Center will do what Sidhu wanted to do?
From the point of view of Punjab politics, this decision is related to drunkenness after the sovereignty of the state. When Navjot Sidhu, who became the President of Punjab Congress, got Amarinder overthrown, then intoxication was also a big issue in it. Sidhu has been continuously targeting Akali leader Bikram Majithia with gestures that drug smugglers have his support. Even after changing the CM face in Punjab, the Congress government could not catch the big smugglers till now. In such a situation, the discussion is that the work that Sidhu wants to get done by his government, now it can be done through BSF.
