On November 11, the Supreme Court ordered the release of six accused serving jail terms in the Rajiv Gandhi murder case after being in jail for 31 years. The court had given this order based on the recommendation of the Tamil Nadu government for the remission of punishment for the criminals. Apart from Nalini Sriharan, RP Ravichandran, Santhan, Murugan, Robert Payas, and Jayakumar were released from jail after the court order. In May this year, the Supreme Court acquitted another convict, AG Perarivalan, citing Article 142.
