Rajya Sabha Elections 2022: Today is the last date for filing nomination papers for two Rajya Sabha seats from Haryana. According to the strength of the assembly, the victory of Krishnalal Panwar of BJP and Ajay Maken of Congress is certain. But, BJP can spoil the game of Congress at the last minute and a third candidate can change the maths of the election.
In Haryana, the ruling BJP has played the Dalit card by fielding former minister Krishan Lal Panwar for the Rajya Sabha. The main opposition Congress has fielded Ajay Maken, a leader from outside Haryana, representing the Punjabi-Brahmin community, as its candidate.
Panwar and Maken are set to go to the Rajya Sabha if no third candidate is revealed today, the last day of nomination, but the BJP, which is trying to sabotage the Congress MLAs, may suddenly field an independent candidate in the election battle. If this happens, then the game of Congress candidate Ajay Maken is sure to deteriorate.
Two Rajya Sabha seats are vacant in Haryana, on which elections are to be held on June 10. This election is being held after the completion of the tenure of BJP-backed Independent candidate Subhash Chandra and BJP MP Dushyant Kumar Gautam. The name of former minister Krishna Panwar has come up unexpectedly from the BJP side.
Panwar has been a five-time MLA from Assandh and Israna, winning four elections on Lok Dal and INLD tickets. He has a political background in INLD, but after joining the BJP in 2014, he won the elections and was made Jail, Housing, and Transport Minister by Chief Minister Manohar Lal. Since then, Panwar has been counted among the chief minister's trusted associates. The BJP's decision to send Panwar to Rajya Sabha has surprised its party leaders, but the BJP has played the Dalit card.
The Congress has made preparations to send Ajay Maken, a former Union minister close to the Gandhi family living in Delhi, to the Rajya Sabha. Former Chief Minister Bhupendra Hooda took a meeting of his party's MLAs on Monday to win Ajay Maken. Maken reached Chandigarh on Monday evening along with party in-charge Vivek Bansal and Rajya Sabha member Deepender Hooda.
The decision of the high command to send Maken to Rajya Sabha, ignoring Surjewala and Selja from Haryana, is linked to Hooda's plan to play openly. Maken is a Punjabi Brahmin. According to the possibility, if the BJP fielded an independent candidate for the second seat as well, then the 'game' of Congress' Ajay Maken may get spoiled. BJP is eyeing two MLAs from NCR and GT Road belt, including Congress MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi, who can spoil the game of Congress.
This is the position of MLAs for voting
In Haryana, BJP has 40 MLAs, Congress 31, JJP 10, and Independents 7 MLAs. One MLA is from INLD and one from Halopa. According to the rules, to win the first seat in the Rajya Sabha, 31 MLAs need votes, while the second requires 30 votes.
BJP has 40 MLAs and BJP has 6 independent MLAs including 10 JJP MLAs. In such a situation, Krishna Lal Panwar is sure to go to the Rajya Sabha. According to the possibility, if Kuldeep Bishnoi remains missing on Tuesday, the BJP can play a game. BJP may get the support of Halopa MLA Gopal Kanda and INLD MLA Abhay Chautala, while both BJP and Congress are hopeful of getting the support of Independent MLA Balraj Kundu of Meham.
