Veteran industrialist and honorary head of Tata Sons Padma Vibhushan Ratan Tata passed away on Wednesday night. He was 86 years old. He breathed his last at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. If Ratan Tata had any children, then perhaps the question of who would be his successor would never have arisen.

She joined the Tata Group in 2006 as Assistant Sales Manager at Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces and now serves as Vice President at The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), progressing through various roles.

 

Maya Tata and Neville are also in the race for a successor

 

Younger daughter Maya Tata has started her career at Tata Capital as an analyst at the group's flagship financial services company. Her brother Neville Tata began his professional journey at Trent, the retail chain his father helped build. Neville is married to Manasi Kirloskar, the heiress of the Toyota Kirloskar Group.

 

Took command of the company himself in 1991

 

In 1991, when his uncle JRD Tata stepped down, he took over the leadership of the group. This time was very important for India, as the country began revolutionary reforms to open its economy to the world and usher in an era of rapid growth.

 

In one of his early moves, Ratan Tata attempted to curb the power of the heads of some of the group's companies. He introduced retirement ages, promoted younger people to senior positions, and increased control over the companies.
