Government Plans 'Right to Repair': Work on developing a framework for the Right to Repair rule to eliminate the arbitrariness of the Central Government consumer goods, gadgets, and car companies Still working. At present, under the policy of most companies, customers have to get their gadgets and cars repaired only at the authorized service centers of the company. On the other hand, the warranty of the products is terminated by repairing from outside. Under this new rule, now the manufacturing companies will have to give all the information about their products to the customers so that they will be able to repair these products themselves or anywhere. In such a situation, the dependence of the users on the companies will be reduced.
The government has also constituted a committee for this. The first meeting of the committee was held on Thursday, in which Nidhi Khare, Additional Secretary, Consumer Department, and chairperson of the committee were also present. The areas that have been identified for repair rights during the meeting by the committee include agricultural equipment, mobile phones, tablets, consumer durables, automobiles, and automobile products. Has been done.
With this rule, the government wants to strengthen the customers. Through this right, the government wants to harmonize the business between the company, seller, and third-party buyers, and through this, efforts are also being made to reduce e-waste. It was also discussed during the meeting that production companies avoid the publication of manuals, which can help the consumer to repair their gadgets and spare parts easily.
