Young Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Rinku Singh has done what a cricketer can do in many years. He hit five consecutive sixes in the last over to give Kolkata an incredible win against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (April 9). The boy who once mopped in the coaching center has become the new hero of Kolkata today.
Gujarat captain Rashid Khan won the toss and decided to bat. Gujarat had scored 204 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. Kolkata started well but Rashid Khan took a hat-trick in the 17th over to turn the match towards Gujarat. Kolkata had to score 29 runs in the last over to win. It seemed that she would lose the match, but here young left-handed star Rinku Singh did wonders.
Yash Dayal hit five sixes
Rinku gave Kolkata a memorable victory by hitting five consecutive sixes in the last over of Yash Dayal. Umesh Yadav took one run on the first ball and Kolkata had to score 28 runs on five balls. From here Rinku hit sixes in the last five balls. The story of this player who made Kolkata a winner inspires many youngsters. Rinku did not give up even in difficult circumstances and made a name for himself.
Father used to distribute gas cylinders
Rinku Singh hails from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh and the story of his reaching this stage has been full of troubles and sorrows. Rinku's father used to distribute a gas cylinder in Aligarh. One of the five sons, Rinku was very fond of cricket since his school days and used to play cricket with friends in his spare time. He started enjoying it. This was disclosed by Rinku in a video on the website of Kolkata Knight Riders.
Cricketer did not want to become a father
Rinku told, “My father did not want to see me playing cricket. He didn't want me to waste my time on cricket. Sometimes I used to get beaten up for my stubbornness. When I used to return home after playing, my father used to stand with a stick. However, my brothers supported me and used to ask me to play cricket. I didn't have money then to buy the ball. Some people helped me in this too.
Got a job as a mop in the coaching center
Rinku had said, “I got a job as a mop in a coaching centre. The people of the coaching center said that come early in the morning and leave after mopping. It was my brother who got me this job. I could not do this job and left the job. I could not even read, so I felt that now I should concentrate fully on cricket. I thought that only cricket can take me forward now and I have no other option.
Shahrukh's team bought
Rinku Singh was doing well in small tournaments. He was looking for a big opportunity. Shah Rukh Khan gave this opportunity to Rinku. His team bought Rinku in 2018 for Rs 80 lakh. Since then Rinku is a member of Kolkata. He is slowly becoming an integral part of the team.
