China - Taiwan: 'Strict action will be taken if Taiwan is attacked', Britain warns China amid tensions

Posted on 26th Apr 2023 12:19 pm by rohit kumar

Britain has warned China about any kind of attack on Taiwan on 25 April. Britain said that if China failed to fulfill its international obligations, it could have to bear the risk of domestic and global upheaval.

Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said London wanted to see a 'peaceful solution' to sovereignty. James Cleverly urged China to uphold its international obligations. Also said that if China breaks these obligations, we will be entitled to take action.

China's claim on Taiwan

Let us tell you that China claims Taiwan as a Chinese province and has also threatened to seize it by force if needed one day. At the same time, Taiwan argues that it was never a part of the People's Republic of China (PRC). It is worth mentioning that earlier this month, the Chinese military conducted several military exercises around Taiwan.

If there is a war, there will be a lot of loss.

According to Nikkei Asia, a war in the straits would not only be a human tragedy but could also destroy $2.6 trillion of world trade. James Cleverly, at Mansion House in the City of London financial district, said that no country could escape its effects. I shudder to think of the human and financial devastation this will cause. It is, therefore, imperative that neither side acts unilaterally to change the status quo.

Tension between London and Beijing

Relations between London and Beijing have been strained in recent years. Tensions have risen between the two countries over the treatment of the Uyghur Muslim minority and Britain's ban on participation of tech firm Huawei in the roll-out of 5G telecoms networks.
